I just spent the weekend in San Francisco, for NBA All-Star Weekend, which serves as professional basketball’s annual convention. Commissioner Adam Silver gives his state of the union. Billionaire owners commingle with their business partners. Groupies strategize. Mac McClung dunks over a car.
And like any decent convention or conference you’ve ever attended, the best stuff tends to happen away from the previously scheduled programming, in candid conversations with decision-makers you don’t otherwise get to see very often.
Also, Yao Ming:
But I digress.
On this edition of The Sporting Class, Meadowlark co-founder John Skipper and Nothing Personal’s David Samson analyze the NBA’s true state of the union. The debatable value of commercials, even at the Super Bowl. And what television ratings — and the anxiety therein — really say about the business of a sport.
YOUTUBE SPOILER ALERT:
Honored,
Pablo
P.S. Thanks (?) to Mickey Duzyj for the update:
Pablo, huge fan, especially tuned in to your take on LIV golf disaster. I would like to speak with you about the pro golf situation and what can be done to prevent the further erosion of American influence in the sport. Please respond…
