This is an episode about a top-secret video.
A long-rumored, never-before-seen time capsule — a Knickstape — that I’ve been trying to unearth for years now. As both an investigative reporter and a native New York elitist.
Because I grew up caring about this team. Wishing for a big free agent to fall in love with Madison Square Garden and win the city’s first title since 1973.
And I’ve since stopped caring like that, mostly on account of the Knicks’ nepo-billionaire owner, James Dolan, who inherited the team from his father.
But in the summer of 2010 — the summer defined by the biggest free agent mystery in the history of sports — I cared. A lot. In fact, I presumed that the New York Knicks were not simply contenders to sign LeBron James.
Like many New Yorkers, I believed that the Knicks were the obvious Decision.
But the question of how Jim Dolan’s Knicks pitched LeBron, in person, on July 1, 2010 — how they attempted to persuade this 25-year-old superstar, behind closed doors, to choose New York City — has never been fully answered.
Until today.
Today, we exclusively bring you the very special video presentation that LeBron himself saw that day.
And more.
DKN/YOUTUBE SPOILER ALERT:
Don’t stop,
