This is one of those episodes where I presume that your experience, as a listener, is a lot like the one I had as the host of the show:
You just want Jerry Saltz to keep talking.
Jerry, in case you didn’t know, is one of the most respected voices in the world of art. He’s the senior art critic at New York magazine; won the Pulitzer for criticism in 2018; and was once a celebrated artist — and truck driver — himself.
Jerry also has zero idea who Dwyane Wade is (as you’ll see).
Which makes him our perfect candidate for the job of assessing the highest honor that sports bestows upon an athlete or a coach: a statue.
A statue which — as you may have been reminded recently, in the case of D-Wade — isn’t always as popular as the person this work of art seeks to honor.
And so I wanted Jerry and his Pulitzer and his three honorary doctorates and decades of criticism to serve as PTFO’s completely unbiased art critic.
But first you need to understand the origin of his incomparable point of view.
