The expectation you have for this episode, I imagine, is that it’s gonna be all politics and Trump and his cabinet because our guest is the guy who became the youngest host of a primetime cable news show, on MSNBC, at age 34, back in 2013. But that expectation would be wrong.
In reality, Chris Hayes — who’s also a real Chicago sports maniac, by the way — wrote a whole new book called The Sirens’ Call. And the focus of this book, which I found myself compulsively underlining as I read it, is the science and history and philosophy of attention.
Which brings me back to “Woke Sheldon,” as SNL recently called him.
And also my belief that the authority Chris has on this specific subject is partly but not overwhelmingly political. Because even the most right-wing pundits would have to agree with Chris Hayes that Chris Hayes is, admittedly, a nerd.
And this is a story about what nerds have done to everyone’s brains.
Also: spam, SNL, Dominion vs. Fox, the MSM, Blaise Pascal, the Cocktail Party Effect, PTI, HammerKing75, Neil Postman, piglets, and a Socrates hot take.
